Moon over San Juan mountains

Here it is about 6:30  in the morning and the moon is just going down behind my house.  I love to take pictures of the sky here because it is so beautiful....that I love to catch the difference from one mountain peak to the next.  The moon comes up over the San de Cristo mountains from my front porch and goes down behind the San Juan mountains..on my back porch.. Well it is interesting to me.  I love the changes of colors .....God has a wonderful paint brush.

The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another, and star differ from star in splendor.

Buy American?

It has been a long winter and it hasn't let up.  It started before Thanksgiving and here we are approaching St. Patrick's Day.  Then Easter, the last day of March.  Can you believe (of course you can) Walmart took down the Valentine sale items and started putting up Easter Baskets, Easter bunnies, Easter eggs.  Please, Walmart, let us enjoy our lives.  They go by fast enough.  And all these holidays mean to you is money, money.

When I was a child, we made our Easter Baskets out of Quaker Oatmeal boxes, for the colored eggs and maybe a chocolate egg with our name on it...or maybe not.  We had a great family day..hiding colored eggs, it was a family day.  All right, you say boring.

There's nothing boring about waking up and finding this big Easter basket wrapped in cellophane, that you saw yesterday at Walmart's?   Do you realize Walmart has become our Easter Bunny, our Santa Claus. Our country shows it patriotism by flying American flags, made in China...Eat on red, white and blue paper plates...I'm sure most of our fireworks are Chinese made.  At Thanksgiving it's napkins with turkeys, pumpkins, etc. that decorate our table. Made in China   You think about it.  China has stolen our holidays with the help of Walmart and the American public..(you and me)

Walmart and China has stolen our American way of life...or did we give it to them and paid them them take it?

Early Winter Morning...

As I slipped out the door this morning to feed the bunnies...the sky looked so beautiful.  I slipped back in the house and got my camera ....So here is what I think are some fantastic pictures of the mountains, the early morning sky and maybe a picture of Emily and Sara...

This is just to give you an idea of the beauty of the morning sky.  And the mountains.  Oh, yes.
I go back in side and my girls are still in bed....Are you crazy, taking pictures at this hour.

Sabbath's Day's Blessing

We had a light snow last night.  But the sun came up early, bright and warm.  It going to be a very nice Sabbath Day.

I have never made a point in my writing to say that I am a Sabbath keeper.  A Seventh Day Adventist Sabbath keeper.  Actually just like every other Christian, I believe that we should "Do unto others as we would have others treat us.

I believe we are all sinners, saved by the blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
I believe in the Ten Commandments...Yes ...all of them.  Including #4

Remember, the Sabbath Day to keep it holy.

Most importantly....I believe in our Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ who gave his life for a sinner like me.

For great is your love, higher than the heavens...Psalm 4:108

The Caretakers

Sara and I have had a very busy winter.  We have to sit by the window and keep track of all the little birds that failed to go south for the winter.  Wonder where they stay?  Then we have all the little bunnies, I think some of them  live under our porch.  And the neighbor dogs...don't they have a home?

The lady that lives here with us, keeps feeding those bunnies.  Every morning before we are up we hear her going out the door to throw carrots to the little bunnies.  And they come hopping.  Sara and I sit at the window and bark.  Evidently, they have a hearing problem, because they

completely ignore us.  "We're up here!  ( and if we ever get out, you had better run.)  The lady thinks we don't notice, but she puts carrots out at night.  Does she think they need a midnight snack..?

There is someone always coming and going here.  Some say, "Oh, what cute puppies.  Come here.  I want to hold you."
"No!'  We run to the bedroom and hide under the bed."
There's this one lady, she brings her big, furry slobbering dog...and ....he eats all of our food, drinks our water.  And he chews up our toys.  I'm glad it was Sara's clown, I don't want now big dog germs....
Since it's such a nice day, we'll probably spend the day outdoors.  We have a lot of fun.  The neighbors dogs , there's two.  One is a big, tall, skinny dog and one's really nice, he's a Beagle.     We look through porch railing and bark at them.  We shake our little tails.  I heard her say, " I hope they don't shake them off".    Is that possible?

We have it pretty nice.  We have the run of the house.  We are free to go in and outdoors.  And we have this lady that lives with us trained pretty well.  So, all in all  it's a good life.

There Will Be Days.....

Did you ever have one of those days....where you just couldn't get all your ducks in a row and have them standing?  You get the idea, that's how my day has been.

It started in the kitchen, I was putting the dishes in the dishwasher when the phone rang.  As I was answering it, I noticed my plants needed to be watered.  While I was giving them a drink, a friend stopped by.  We discussed the news, the neighbors, the pastors sermons, well you name it.  After she leaves I go back to the kitchen, my daughter calls.  Did I want to run to town with her? Well, yes. I hurriedly ran a comb through my hair, changed my shoes.  Linda was waiting.

We stop by the Post Office to mail a package, by the bank.  Then we did our shopping.  It was close to noon, so we decided to go for lunch.  We went to "Little Liu Ann's" Tea Shop.  I don't know who her baker is but she has the best pies.  Instead of lunch we decided on coconut cream pie and coffee.  As we left I bought some blueberry muffins to take home.  Linda bought a blueberry pie.

By the time we get home the afternoon is slipping by.  In the house, I still haven't put the dishes in the dishwasher. I vowed I would not answer the door until everything was in shape.

3'oclock.  I had the dishes put up, the bed made, a load of clothes in the dryer.  Ran the sweeper in the living room, swept the kitchen floor.  Made a salad, put it in the fridge. Fed the girls, Emily & Sara.

By 5 0'clock I had my shower...checked the mail.  Decided I had time to catch up on Facebook and my emails..

All in all, it has been a good day.

If you are not the kind to let dirty dishes bother you. Well, they do me.  But it was still a good day.

Thank you, Lord.

I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.               Psalm 34:1

Tea Parties, Pets, ...Laughter

It looks like a beautiful day in the making.  Sun shining so bright.  Even my plants seem to be lifting their leaves to enjoy the warm sunshine.  It's a good day.  Thank you, Lord.

I have to get busy.  I'm going to a tea today.  There are 6 of us ladies that are retired school employees that try to get together every month or so.  Have tea and cookies and talk (and a lot of laughs).  We talk about our pets, bring pictures and stories and we laugh.

No one is allowed to mention husbands, children, grandchildren....only pets.  Reason:  Each thinks their husband is the most wonderful man in the world.....or on the other hand...the worst..  Their children might be the most beautiful, most clever, smart, gifted.  Or on the other hand..........?  So, they are all off limits.

Now pets, we get quite caught up in these precious little or big members of our families.  But as a rule we keep it on a pleasant level.  Bringing pictures and stories of our furry friends.

This is my two little darlings.  Emily and Sara...Emily in back is the boss,  Sara  is more laid back.

Since we have all spent at least 20 years of our lives working with children and young adults...These are not off limits.  So we laugh and tell our stories...As Jimmy Durante use to say, "I have a million of them."  I think a life spent with young people keeps you young in your attitude.  You will be more tolerant of the young...You just can't help but love them.  ...All of them.

We have a little devotional each time by one of us.  We each put ten dollars in the kitty, which we will use for some good cause as the need arises.  After we have chatted, eaten, laughed and remembered...we part until next month.   Stay well, dear friends...

This is the day the Lord has made.  I will rejoice and be glad in it.

Mountain Beauty

It is a beautiful February day.  Not a cloud in the sky, it's so clear and blue.  The mountains are a snow covered painting.  So,  we decided to take a hike in the hills. We packed a lunch put in the little coffee pot, some coffee, sandwiches, cookies, apples.  Then we took off.

Our destination was the mountains above the sand dunes.  First, we go through the Ranger Station, then past the path to the dunes.  Back up the road to the camp grounds which was deserted.  We drove around until we found our trail we wanted to take.  Parked the car in a camp site area.  There were signs posted Bear Area...but we hoped and decided they were hibernating.  Again, it is such a beautiful day, the air so fresh.  The mountains above us are covered with snow.  We start up the trail,  about half an hour later we took off our jackets and tied them around our waists.  The mountains are post card pretty in the summer, but here  in late February..the scene is one you will never forget.  We can look out and see the valley below.  Such peace...with all the turmoil in the world...there are places where the peace and majesty of God is felt.  This is one of those places.

About 2 o'clock we decided we had better head back down the trail.  It was a lot easier going back down than the hike up. When we got back to the Camp site where we had parked the car. Hungry and tired we made a little fire, filled the coffee pot with snow..While we waited for the coffee to boil we explored the other sites...debating on which we would like in the summer, for a few days camping. Being very hungry, we barely waited for the coffee to boil, while we go out our sandwiches, cookies and cups.  Then we a sat around eating, meditating on the beauty around us, tired and happy.

We  drove home in silence, tired, happy.  Reflecting on what a good day.

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

What's On The Menu

I'm expecting company and I haven't decide what  to bake, fry...toss together.  But while I was looking for some ideas, I came across this recipe for cookies...I will cut it in half.  The lady says she asked for the recipe while eating at Neiman-Marcus.  The waitress said it would cost two fifty.  I said okay...put it on my bill.....Well, later she got the bill...the recipe was $250  not $2.50 as she thought.  Try as she could they would not refund her money.  Said she already had the recipe.  So being very angry....she is sharing the recipe with anyone that wants it.

SHE SAID SEND IT TO EVERY PERSON YOU KNOW...This is really a terrific recipe.
I'll see for myself.....

Neiman-Marcus Cookies

2 cups butter
24 oz. chocolate chips
4 cups flout
2 cups brown sugar
2 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
1 8 oz. Hershey Bar (grated)
5 cups blended oatmeal
4 eggs
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp vanilla
3 cups nuts..your choice

Measure oatmeal and blend in a blender to a fine powder.  Cream the butter and both sugars.    Add the eggs and vanilla , mix together with flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder, and soda.  Add chocolate chips, Hershey Bar, and nuts.  Roll into balls and place 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 minuites at 375 degrees.  Makes 112 cookies.

Make no claims for this...I'm just going to try it myself.
